D&D Town Name Generator

Workable town names for any campaign map — short, plain and easy for players to say twice a session.

—

How these names are built

Town names at the table have a practical constraint: players must be able to spell, say and remember them. The safest construction is two short, ordinary words — Redwater, Millbrook, Stoneford. 24 × 24 = 576 towns.

How the generator works

Every result is rolled from 24 + 24 word banks — 576 combinations — using your browser's random source. Nothing is typed in by hand and nothing is sent anywhere: the whole tool runs on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why not longer, fancier town names?

Because players will shorten them anyway. 'The Radiant Spire of Al'Maris' becomes 'that tower place' by session two. Two clean words survive contact with a table.

How many towns does a campaign need?

Roughly one named settlement per session of travel, plus three in reserve. Generate a batch of 10 and keep them on your screen.
